العناية بالفم

Oral Care is the practice of maintaining a clean, disease-free mouth through consistent hygiene and preventive habits. Its primary goal is to remove plaque—a sticky film of bacteria that, if left alone, causes cavities, gum disease (gingivitis), and bad breath.

Because oral health is directly linked to overall systemic health (including heart health and diabetes management), the tools we use are categorized into daily cleaning hardware and supplemental hygiene products.

. Core Hardware (The Physical Tools)

These are the mechanical instruments used to physically scrub and dislodge debris.

  • Toothbrushes: * Manual: Available in soft, medium, or hard bristles (dentists almost always recommend soft to protect enamel).

    • Electric/Powered: Use oscillating-rotating or sonic vibrations to remove plaque more efficiently than manual brushing.

  • Interdental Cleaners: * Dental Floss/Tape: Traditional string used to clean tight spaces between teeth.

    • Interdental Brushes: Small, cone-shaped brushes for larger gaps or cleaning around braces.

    • Water Flossers: Devices that use a pressurized stream of water to flush out debris

  • Tongue Scrapers: Plastic or metal tools designed to remove bacteria from the surface of the tongue, which is a major cause of bad breath.

Chemical & Supplemental Products

These products use active ingredients to strengthen teeth or kill harmful bacteria that hardware alone might miss.

  • Toothpaste: * Fluoride: The "gold standard" ingredient that remineralizes enamel and prevents decay.

    • Sensitivity: Contains compounds like potassium nitrate to block pain signals from the tooth nerve.

Whitening: Uses mild abrasives or peroxides to remove surface stains.

  • Mouthwash (Oral Rinses): * Therapeutic: Contains antimicrobials (like cetylpyridinium chloride) to reduce plaque and gingivitis.

    • Cosmetic: Primarily used to temporarily mask bad breath without long-term health benefits.

  • Disclosing Tablets: Chewable tablets that contain a harmless dye; they stain unbrushed plaque a bright color to show you exactly where you missed.
